Here is a quick picture of what our top three studios did over the last three months compared to the stock market.

There is only one reason why people invest in their own business. They think (and I agree) that most likely they will get a better return for their money. Call me and let's chat about you owning your own business.

I was in Dallas, Texas last week for one of our Show ‘N Tells. Show ‘N Tell is our discovery day for those who are interested in opening up their own studio. I found myself strolling out by my hotel after lunch and happened upon a still photographer, who was walking rather briskly towards the hotel.  That begs the question, how can one be still and briskly at the same time? You can always tell a still photographer by that giant Cannon or Nikon hanging from their neck (usually with a heck of a long lens attached). This guy fit the bill, so I struck up a conversation with him.
He was on his way to a business event to take photos (no surprise there really). Of course, I told him I was a video producer/director and this took us to the subject of still cameras that shoot video. Jeb (not his real name) was all excited about the new Canon 5D, which he claimed was supposed to shoot awesome HD video. We talked about it for some time.

Today, when I opened up Thursday’s  USA Today (October 1, Money Section, Page 4B), sure enough, there was a review of two new Single Lens Reflex (SLR) cameras that shoot HD video, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II being one and the  Nikon D90 being the other. Read the review for yourself. It is quite interesting.

There are pros and cons to both cameras concerning their ability to shoot video (and record sound) but I see this as a great opportunity for our studios now and in the future. First, as many of my readers know, we (HVS Studio Owners) are creators and modifiers of content. We don’t care if we create the content or our clients do. Creation is fun but what we are interested in is making money. That is always the bottom line.

Now, I can think of a number of ways to use the new Canon 5D. It may be that one day all image-gathering devices will shoot video and snap digital stills. For now, Home Video Studio owners and me are interested in the convergence of these formats and this trend.

There has never been a better time then now to become a Home Video Studio owner! Call me today and let’s discuss your future. I’ll even throw in a Canon 5D. Just say you read it here! After all, is it 5D or not 5D that is the question? Or maybe are you “to be or not to be?”

Tired of working for Corporate America? Just get laid off? Call me and we can chat of what’s to be!

In a week that some might call the worst week for the economy and Wall Street in years, Home Video Studio owners, Jeff and Kim Johnson did over $7000. You can read about them and their studio in Moorpark, California in this week’s front- page news article in the Ventura County Star. See link: http://www.venturacountystar.com/news/2008/sep/30/home-sweet-videos/
It was the worst of times. It was the best of times.

This young couple has been owners for less than a year and continues to surpass all goals. As you read, they even took home six Hanley Awards – HVS’ version of the Oscars - at our annual convention held in Walt Disney World in August. That’s pretty darn amazing!
